    What is a managed lane?

A managed lane (also called an Express Lane) is a "freeway-within-a-freeway" separated from the general purpose lanes that use traffic management strategies to keep traffic flowing at a reliable speed. Examples of traffic management strategies that might be used include pricing, vehicle eligibility and access control. Drivers have a choice of using a general purpose lane or a managed lane to save time when desired.
