Noxious Weeds - Control

  cc_plant2

The Colorado Noxious Weed Act & Regulations require that weeds be managed.  Under the Act, a prioritized list has been established which requires a higher level of control for some weeds including eradication and containment.

Eradication
Eradication means stopping the spread of noxious weeds by preventing seed formation or the development of reproductive parts.

Containment
Containment means the control of noxious weeds so that they do not spread to areas where they are not known to occur.

Suppression
Suppression means managing the designated noxious weed so that its population is reduced and prevented from spreading onto neighboring properties.

Each plant species requires specific control techniques in order to be effective, what works to control one weed might not work on another.

Good Land Stewardship is Important to Prevent the Spread of Noxious Weeds.

  • Learn to identify various noxious weeds. Quick identification allows for easy control, don't wait until your entire property is covered with weeds before you realize you have a problem.
  • Revegetate disturbed areas.
  • If you have livestock, don't overgraze your property.
  • Use weed-free hay and mulch.

Weed control is a long-term process, be patient and practice good land stewardship. Your reward will be a healthy native plant community sustaining the wildlife that depends on it.
